Three day padlle with Paul Ferguson, June 12, 13 and 14, 2004

If you are not attending The Neuse River Days in New Bern you may like to join Paul Ferguson. Paul is the author of "Paddling Eastern North Carolina".

> On Sarurday we will put-in at the end of Pettiford Creek Road , State
> Road 1284. This is the 2nd paved road north of Pettiford Creek on Hwy
> 58 on the west side. We will meet there at 10:00 AM. This will be our
> take out too. We should be off the water by four or five depending on
> how much exploring we want to do.

On Sunday, present plans are to put in at Stella at Boondocks on The White Oak and paddle to Croatan Forest ramp in Cedar Point off Rte. 58. (First road left going north from Rte 24.) Left again on road by sign. Ramp is at end. Do not turn into campground. ( A northeast wind is supposed to develop on Sunday which will help take us down river.). We will leave shuttle vehicles at Cedar Point and meet there at 8:00. We should be off the river by 4:00.

This trip is #3 on map by Crystal Coast Canoe & Kayak Club, being The Western Carteret , White Oak River, Bear Island Map

On Monday we will meet at Hammocks Beach State Park. Turn off 24 at the ABC Store in Swansboro. Signs to the park are 10 miles out and also as you approach Hammocks Beach Road. When you enter turn immediately left to the put in and our take out for the day.

Please be there at 9:00. We will paddle over to the ferry landing on the island and walk over to visit the new facilities building on the island. We will then paddle along the shore line to the east end of Bear Island facing Emerald Isle and check out the camp sites that can be accessed by canoes and kayaks.

We will return by another route to Hammocks Beach via West Channel or Trail #6 (Trail # SC On-1) on map "The Western Carteret, White Oak River Area, Bear Island" and the ICW. Should be back by 4:00. Elmer
